MANILA, Philippines – A heat index of more 40°C may hit parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila on Friday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja said Metro Manila can continue to expect maximum temperatures of 34-35 °C until Sunday, with a heat index of around 40 °C.
“‘Yung ating mga nasa may plain areas dito sa may Northern and Central Luzon, possible ‘yung higit pa rin sa 40 °C na heat index o yung mararamdamang init ng ating katawan,” he said.
(It’s possible that the heat index— or the heat felt by the body— in plain areas of Northern and Central Luzon will exceed 40 degrees Celsius.)
“Take note po dito sa may Tuguegarao, posibleng umabot pa rin sa 37 degrees Celsius ang ating maximum temperature. For Metro Manila po, 35 °C,” Estareja reported.
(Tuguegarao may experience a maximum temperature of 37 °C and 35 °C in Metro Manila.)
Cebu-based Pagasa weather specialist Jhomer Eclarino earlier explained that heat index temperatures ranging between 38 to 45 °C fall under Pagasa’s Extreme Caution and Danger category.
