Fake Chanel, Hermes, and Rolex items worth P200 million are seized in a mall in San Juan City

MANILA, Philippines — Authorities have confiscated fake luxury items worth more than P200 million during a raid inside a shopping center in San Juan City.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) reported Monday that counterfeit goods carrying the logo of luxury brands such as Chanel, Hermes, and Rolex were seized from six stores in the mall on April 5. The raid was implemented by virtue of search warrants issued by Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 46 against the shops.

According to the NBI, a “substantial quantity of counterfeit bags, footwear, jewelry, and watches bearing the trademarks of Chanel, Hermes, and Rolex with an approximate value of Php223,867,715.00” were confiscated.

This is not the first time that government authorities were able to intercept fake luxury items from shops inside the San Juan City mall.

In 2022, the NBI seized P63 million worth of fake Louis Vuitton items from the same mall, said the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines (IPOPHL).

With over 2,000 indoor and outdoor stores, the famous shopping center is included in the piracy and counterfeiting watchlist of the United States Trade Representative, the IPOPHL added.
