Azurin: Isn’t it baffling why ‘shabu’ keeps popping up in provinces up north?

MANILA, Philippines — Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Rodolfo Azurin Jr. is noticing a pattern: apparently, more parcels of crystal meth or shabu have been seized in the northern parts of the country.

“Is it not baffling that parcels of shabu keep on popping up around the country — particularly in provinces up north — despite the PNP drug enforcement group’s supposedly relentless operations?” Azurin said in a press conference in Camp Crame on Monday.

Azurin noted that hundreds of million worth of shabu were seized in recent raids in Poro Point, La Union; Binalonan, Pangasinan; Mexico, Pampanga; and Baguio City.

“Sabi ko nga eh, mukhang malapit nang makarating sa Ilocos ah, ‘di ba?” Azurin pointed out.

(As I have said. It seems the [illegal drugs] could soon reach Ilocos, isn’t it?)

The top cop said he also received information from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency “on the alleged involvement of some erring personnel possibly engaged in recycling” of the said illegal drugs.

“We are going after them,” he said.
