CAUAYAN CITY — Three pigs were confirmed to be infected with the African Swine Fever (ASF) in the coastal town of Dinapigue in Isabela, the local agriculture office reported on Friday, April 14.
The infection was recorded in Digumased village, a report on Saturday, April 15, said.
Due to the situation, culling operations have been ongoing within the 100-meter radius of the village. The hundreds of culled hogs were buried to avoid contamination.
Dinapigue Municipal Agriculture officer Sonnyfel Nieves said the swine probably got the ASF infection from neighboring Dilasag town in Aurora province.
The coastal town is more connected to Aurora than other Isabela towns.
These recent ASF cases came after confirmed cases in Enrile, Ballesteros, Sanchez Mira, Claveria, and Lasam towns in Cagayan were recorded late last year. — Villamor Visaya Jr. INQ
