P3.9M ‘kush’ intercepted at Clark port, suspect arrested in Manila

CLARK FREEPORT ZONE — Authorities intercepted some 2.4 kilos of kush (high-grade marijuana) worth an estimated P3.9 million from the United States at the Bureau of Customs Port of Clark on. Thursday.

Glen Guillermo, public information officer of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Region 3 (PDEA 3), said Jeric Herrera, 27, was arrested in a “controlled delivery” operation along Quezon Boulevard in Sta. Cruz, Manila at past 10 p.m. on Thursday.

Guillermo said the suspect accepted the package containing kush worth P3,923,700 from undercover PDEA agents who pretended to be personnel of a courier company.

The box delivered to Herrera contained five tin cans with plastic pouches. Inside the pouches were the suspected kush.

Operatives arrested Herrera and confiscated the air waybill and identification card he presented to the undercover PDEA agents.

PDEA 3 disclosed that the package arrived at the Port of Clark on April 11.

“The package was declared as Tevana Green Herbal Tea. It underwent X-ray and K-9 inspection which indicated the presence of dangerous drugs. A physical examination was thereafter conducted that led to the discovery of five transparent plastic pouches containing the subject kush”, PDEA 3 said in a statement.

PDEA 3 conducted the operation together with  PDEA – Clark Airport Interdiction Unit, Clark Inter Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group, Bureau of Customs – Port of Clark, PDEA-National Capital Region and the Manila Police District.

Herrera will face a formal complaint for violation of the  Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
