P16 M smuggled cigarettes seized in Palawan
PUERTO PRINCESA CITY – Police apprehended four individuals for transporting 134 boxes of smuggled cigarettes worth around P16 million in Barangay (village) Inagawan in this city Wednesday afternoon.
The suspects were identified as shuttle van drivers Calino Hapon Hamid and Rajik Jamion HJ Tahil, along with Tansoy Oda Khu Mohammad Butuan and Lemuel Bacling Agustin, residents of Barangay (village) Rio Tuba, in Bataraza, Palawan.
This is the second time this month that authorities were able to intercept smuggled cigarettes being shipped to the city.
Last April 1, police confiscated 107 boxes of smuggled cigarettes worth an estimated P4.2 million from Abdul Malik Mahajuddin Jayari and Gulam Mohammad Butungan in a checkpoint in Barangay Luzviminda.
