MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 is up over  eight areas in the country due Tropical Depression Amang, state meteorologists said Thursday morning.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Amang is also expected to trigger rain in areas without storm signal warnings, including Metro Manila.

“Yung mga kaulapan is concentrated pa rin dun sa labas nung sentro ng bagyo, particularly sa western at northern portions ng Bagyong Amang so makakaranas tayo ng pag-ulan dito sa malaking bahagi ng Cagayan Valley, as well as Central Luzon, NCR, Calabarzon, and mga kalapit na lugar dito sa Mimaropa,” said Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja.

(The clouds are concentrated outside the center of the storm, particularly in the western and northern portions of Tropical Depression Amang, so rain is expected in large parts of  Cagayan Valley, as well as Central Luzon, Metro Manila, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Querzon) and nearby areas in Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan).

TCWS No. 1, which Pagasa said poses “very light or no damage to low risk structures”, is up over the following areas:

  1. Camarines Norte
  2. Northwestern portion of Camarines Sur (Sipocot, Cabusao, Bombon, Calabanga, Tinambac, Siruma, Lupi, Ragay, Del Gallego)
  3. Eastern portion of Laguna (Cavinti, Kalayaan, Paete, Pangil, Siniloan, Famy, Santa Maria, Lumban, Pakil, Mabitac)
  4. Northern and eastern portions of Quezon (Calauag, Infanta, Lopez, Plaridel, Quezon, Alabat, Sampaloc, Mauban, General Nakar, Perez, Gumaca, Atimonan, Real, Tagkawayan, Guinayangan) including Polillo Islands
  5. Eastern portion of Rizal (Tanay, Rodriguez)
  6. Eastern portion of Bulacan (Norzagaray, Doña Remedios Trinidad)
  7. Eastern portion of Nueva Ecija (Gabaldon, General Tinio)
  8. Central and southern portions of Aurora (Dingalan, Baler, Maria Aurora, San Luis, Dipaculao

Amang’s strength, track

Amang as of early Thursday morning was  in the vicinity of Vinzons, Camarines Norte. It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kilometers per hour, said Pagasa.

It is moving west- northwest at 10 kilometers per hour, and is expected to move over the coastal waters of Polillo, Quezon, Pagasa said.
