ORMOC CITY — At least 49 underground mass organizations (UGMO) members denounced their affiliation with the Northern and Eastern Samar rebel groups during the Holy Week.

Brig. Gen. Rommel Francisco Marbil, regional director of the Police Regional Office in Eastern Visayas, lauded the successful surrender of UGMO members.

He said the development resulted from the joint negotiations between the community and the police and military forces.

“To put an end to this false propaganda, we will continue to urge other communist rebels to turn themselves in to the authorities and lay down their arms,” Marbil said.

Among the surrenderers included barangay officials and health workers.
