Classes suspended in Rizal except Antipolo City due to 'Amang'

LUCENA CITY – The Department of Education (DepEd) in Rizal suspended classes in public and private schools on Wednesday, April 12, in the entire province, except in Antipolo City, due to Tropical Depression “Amang.”

The DepEd-Rizal in an announcement on its Facebook page on Wednesday morning suspended classes from Kindergarten to Grade 12 including the alternative learning system.

“Ito ay batay sa local discretion ng bawat pamahalaang bayan ng lalawigan (This is based on the discretion of the local government unit),” the DepEd-Rizal explained.

However, the school authorities in Antipolo City, which has its own DepEd office, clarified that they are not covered by the DepEd-Rizal order.

The authorities in Antipolo City explained that since there is no storm signal in the locality, all classes will continue except if the city government issues a suspension order.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), in its Wednesday 8 a.m. bulletin, said Amang was last located over the coastal waters of Virac, Catanduanes with maximum sustained winds of 45 kph and gustiness of up to 55 kph.

Tropical Wind Signal No. 1 remains hoisted in Catanduanes, Sorsogon (City of Sorsogon, Pilar, Castilla, Donsol), Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Masbate (including Burias Island0, Laguna (San Pablo City, Rizal, Nagcarlan, Pila, Liliw, Magdalena, Majayjay, Luisiana, Cavinti, Pagsanjan, Santa Cruz, Lumban, Kalayaan, Paete, Pakil, Pangil, Siniloan, Famy, Santa Maria, Mabitac, Victoria), Aurora, Quezon including Pollilo Islands and Rizal (Tanay, Pililla, Jala-Jala).
