Follow UAE cyberlaws, OFWs told

The Migrant Workers Office (MWO) reminded Filipinos in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to strictly comply with the host government’s cybercrime law. The reminder came after five overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) were detained in Sharjah, UAE, following the video they posted on Tiktok on March 12, wherein they were apparently mistaken for prostitutes. The MWO-Dubai said OFWs in the UAE must be careful on what they post on social media as these may be deemed as violative of the country’s cybercrime law. It added that OFWs, in particular, must avoid spreading fake information online that may be deemed as confusing and misleading the public. The five OFWs are now waiting for the schedule of court hearings at the Sharjah Court.
