NAIA arrivals, departures breach 1 million during Holy Week
MANILA, Philippines — The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Monday said it recorded a total of 1,051,513 passenger arrivals and departures at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) from April 1 to 9 during the Holy Week.
Based on the data received by INQUIRER.net from MIAA — which combines data from international and domestic flights — the total number consisted of 508,606 arrivals and 542,907 departures.
April 1, which is the day before the Holy Week, recorded the most number with a total of 124,758 or 59,361 arrivals and 65,397 departures.
Meanwhile, Easter Sunday, the last day of the Holy Week, recorded the highest number of arrivals at 64,445, along with 52,929 departures totaling 118,374.
The Holy Week is seen as an important religious event in the Philippines, particularly for Catholics, especially as it is the most sacred week in the liturgical year in Christianity.
