MANILA, Philippines — Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Sunday urged Filipinos to rest and reflect as Christians commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday.
“It is a time of great joy and jubilation, for our Lord Jesus rose from the dead after dying to redeem us from our sins. It is also a time of hope, for in our Lord’s resurrection we find that the promise of eternal life holds true for all of Christianity,” said Romualdez in his Easter message to the public.
“I hope and pray that the Holy Week has given all of us ample time to rest and spend quality time with our family and loved ones. I also hope that all of us had the opportunity to reflect on our past actions and contemplate finding the right path forward,” he added.
He then enjoined the public to be grateful to God for their health, safety and blessings, as well as the “opportunity to physically celebrate with our friends, family, and colleagues, which the restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic have prevented us from doing so in the past years.”
Currently, the House of Representatives is on recess and is set to resume its sessions on May 8.
However, Romualdez in the same statement said that the conduct of committee hearings has been authorized during the break, which is consistent with the chamber’s commitment to approve priority measures on time.
