Pagasa: Cloudy Easter Sunday with possible rain showers as LPA nears

Public Weather Forecast issued at 4:00 AM | April 09, 2023

MANILA, Philippines — The trough or extension of the low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) is forecast to bring rain to parts of the Visayas and Mindanao on Sunday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa weather specialist Benison Estareja said that as of 3:00 a.m. Sunday,  the LPA was around 1,285 kilometers east of Mindanao, and is expected to enter PAR by Sunday evening.

Cloudy with possible showers in Vis-Min

“Over the eastern part pa rin po ng Visayas magiging maulap ang kalangitan sa halos buong araw, at mataas ang tiyansa ng pagulan dulot po ‘yan ng trough o ‘yung extension ng LPA na nasa labas ng PAR,” said Estareja in Pagasa’s latest weather forecast

(Over the eastern part of the Visayas, the sky will still be cloudy for most of the day, and there is a high chance of rain due to the trough or the extension of the LPA outside the PAR.)

“May epekto rin po ng trough ng LPA lalo na sa eastern section ng Mindanao, sa Caraga at Davao region especially po sa Dinagat Islands, at Surigao del Norte,” he added.

(The LPA’s trough will also affect the eastern section of Mindanao, specifically the Caraga and Davao regions, especially Dinagat Islands, and Surigao del Norte.)

Easter Sunday forecast elsewhere

Meanwhile, generally fair weather is expected to prevail over the rest of Visayas and Mindanao with possible localized thunderstorms.

In Luzon, the northeasterly wind flow will bring overcast skies and rain to Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Region.

Rough seas alert!

Pagasa raised gale warnings over the seaboards of  Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Batanes, Cagayan and Isabela, where 3.4 to 4.5 meter – high waves are expected.
