All set for Quota Trail Challenge

The Quota International Cebu South Club in cooperation with Mahogany Grove Home Owners Association will host a trail run on April 22 aptly dubbed as the “Quota Trail Challenge” at the Pristina North Commercial Area in Canduman, Mandaue.

Spearheaded by one of the country’s most popular triathlon couples Noy and Amale Jopson and members of the women’s organization of Quota International Cebu South, the running event hopes to raise funds to support 25 hearing impaired or deaf scholars from the Lipata Minglanilla High School SPED Center.

The generated funds will be used to build a bakery and training center for the scholars.

“We came up with the idea of raising funds because we want to give the students a sustainable training center for them which will hopefully provide them with a livelihood,” said Amale Jopson.

The race will feature a 16-kilometer trail run, 5k and kiddie run which will traverse the Bacayan, Casili and Tolo-tolo areas near Canduman and Consolacion.

The trail run will start and finish at the Pristina North Commercial Area where the kiddies run will also be held.

The trail is wide enough to fit three runners according to race director Noy Jopson and safe for beginners. The trail run was officially launched yesterday at the ALA King Cafe which was also attended by Quota Cebu South president Christi Lapradez, ultramarathoner and Quota Cebu South member Dr. Humility Igaña and other club members.

Quota held its last running event in 2010.

“We decided to have a trail run because it is safe and we can avoid the congested roads. Aside from being enjoyable and close to nature, we also want to share the trail to a bigger number of runners,” said Noy Jopson who runs the trail together with his wife Amale three times a week.

Joel Juarez of Runcheck will man the technical concerns of the run where 600 to 1,000 competitors are expected to join.

The top 3 finishers in the 16k race will receive cash while members of the top 10 will get medals. The top 5 winners in the 5k on the other hand, will receive medals and gift items.

As of yesterday, some 200 runners have already enlisted to join the race. Registration booths are located at the The Brick in J Center Mall, RUNNR in Ayala Center Cebu, Mahogany Grove Administration office and Clinica Melgar.

On site registration is also allowed on race day.
