15 rescued from sinking boat in Camarines Norte

In a Camarines Norte town, an alleged member of the NPA was killed on February 11 in an encounter with the government troops.

LEGAZPI CITY — At least 15 persons aboard a sinking passenger boat were rescued in the seas off Calaguas Island in Vinzons town in Camarines Norte province on Saturday morning, April 8.

Lieutenant Colonel Maria Luisa Calubaquib, spokesperson of Bicol police, said in a report that the victims onboard a M/V Florencia Amber were rescued at around 8:45 a.m

Eight of the passengers were from Capalonga town, also in Camarines Norte, one was from Metro Manila and six were from Cainta, Rizal.

Initial investigation said while traveling to the said island from Minaogan port in Vinzons town, they lost control of the boat after it accidentally hit the coral reefs, which caused damage at the passenger side.

They were unharmed after being rescued by the responders from the municipal disaster risk reduction and management office, Philippine Coast Guard and Vinzons police

Investigation is ongoing.
