MANILA, Philippines — Four suspects were arrested and around P680,000 worth of “shabu” (crystal meth) were seized following a buy-bust operation in Pasig City, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Saturday.

According to NCRPO, its operatives identified and apprehended the first two suspects, Armand Cariño, 28, and Pearl John Fernandez, in a buy-bust operation conducted on April 5 at Caruncho Ave., Barangay San Nicolas.

Based on the report, police personnel seized a plastic containing more or less 100 grams of shabu amounting to P680,000, one piece of a P1,000 bill, 199 pieces of fake P1,000 bills, and a bag.

The other two suspects, Elvie Cariño, 51, and Jocelyn Cariño, 26, were arrested when they reportedly tried to approach the police and offered P100,000 in exchange for the liberty of one of the earlier apprehended suspects.

The first two suspects will face complaints for violating Section 5 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. The other two will face complaints for violating Article 212 of the Revised Penal Code (Corruption of Public Officials).

The NCRPO said it turned over the pieces of drug evidence to the Office of the Eastern Police District Crime Laboratory for chemical analysis.

It added that appropriate charges had been prepared for filing against the arrested suspects at the Pasig City Prosecutors Office.
