MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Saturday reported several, separate cases of drowning across the country during Holy Week, with at least two victims losing their lives in the waters.
On Black Saturday, the PCG assisted in recovering the body of 36-year old Mark Battad in the vicinity waters of Lal-lo, Cagayan.
Battad “was reported missing by his family at around 9 p.m. yesterday, 07 April 2023, due to a drowning incident,” said the PCG in a statement.
His body was found in an irrigation dam.
“Based on the investigation, the victim was on board an unmotorized boat and decided to swim into a deeper portion of the vicinity waters. He failed to get back on board his boat which drifted away until he went missing,” said the PCG.
