Cop wounded in Quezon gun attack

LUCENA CITY – A police officer was wounded in an encounter with a gunman in Sariaya town in Quezon province on Thursday, April 6.

Police Corporals Aldrick Leyola, Russel Kin Ibarrola, and Patrolman Genesis Villa responded to a report that a man was firing indiscriminately around 8:30 p.m. in Barangay Manggalang 1, the Police Region 4A said in a report Friday.

The suspect, Rolando Arañez, noticed the approaching policemen and suddenly fired at the lawmen, hitting Leyola in his thigh.

Investigators said the policemen fired back, but the suspect managed to escape.

The wounded cop was brought to a hospital in neighboring Lucena City.
