The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Thursday said that it will increase the number of transportation network vehicle service (TNVS) units operating in Metro Manila by as much as 10,300 starting April 17.

MANILA, Philippines — The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Thursday said that it will increase the number of transportation network vehicle service (TNVS) units operating in Metro Manila by as much as 10,300 starting April 17.

“We deemed it vital to add TNVS slots at this time as more people go out for work or for leisure,” said LTFRB Chairman Teofilo Guadiz III in a statement.

“The Board expects demand for transportation services to grow even further, especially at the onset of the dry/warm season where more people will travel,” he added.

According to the LTFRB in a resolution, the said slots will also include the MUCEP area, or the provinces of Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite and Rizal.

Based on LTFRB data, there are only 8,396 TNVS units with issued Certificates of Public Convenience (CPC) and Provisional Authority (PA) currently operating in Metro Manila and MUCEP areas.

The LTFRB noted that this is much lower than the 65,000 ceiling, which further stresses the need to increase slots.
