MANILA, Philippines — A total of 5,331 farmers in North Cotabato are expected to benefit from a farm tractor that the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) provided.

DAR said on Thursday that the farm tractor, complete with a disc plow, disc harrow, and trailer, is worth P2,675,000. The farm tractor is expected to help increase farm productivity and the net income of farmers.

The tractor was given to farmers through Alamada Multi-Purpose Cooperative (AMPC) in Alamada, North Cotabato. The AMPC is a “big brother” to other agrarian reform beneficiary organizations (ARBO) in the area.

“The tractor given to the AMPC is expected to boost the agricultural productivity of the ARBs and other farmers in the area by increasing the efficiency of their farm activities, especially in land preparation,” Provincial Agrarian Reform Program Officer Evangeline Bueno said in a statement.

The group expressed their gratitude to the DAR and vowed that they would take care of and maintain the equipment.

“We also assure you that we will maintain and sustain the operation of the farm machine because we already have assigned personnel who will look into the farm and trucking services of the cooperative,” AMPC Chairperson Fe Odrunia said.

The turnover ceremony was attended by  North Cotabato 1st District representative Joselito Sacdalan, local DAR officials, and the AMCP group.

The project was undertaken as part of the DAR’s Climate Resilient Farm Productivity Support Program, which aims to improve agricultural productivity of agrarian reform communities to adapt towards resiliency, said the agency. —With reports from MJ Soriano,  INQUIRER.net trainee
