LUCENA CITY — A man, who works as a driver in a private company, was arrested on Tuesday and yielded more than P3.4 million worth of “shabu” (crystal meth) during a buy-bust operation in Calamba City, Laguna province.

In a report Wednesday, April 5, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Region 4A identified the arrested suspect as Marlon Mamalayan, 35, a city resident. The report did not identify his employer.

The report said PDEA agents and police caught the suspect at 4 p.m. at the parking lot of a fast-food restaurant in Barangay Turbina.

The suspect, classified as a “high-value” target in the government’s war against illegal drugs, was found in alleged possession of 500 grams of shabu worth about P3,450,000, according to PDEA.

Authorities were conducting further investigation to determine the suspect’s source of the illegal drugs.

Mamalayan was detained and is facing charges of violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
