MANILA, Philippines — The deadline for SIM card registration will not be extended beyond April 26, the Department of Information and Communications Technology said.
“The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) warns that there will be no extension of the deadline,” the DICT said in a statement on Monday.
Undersecretary Anna Mae Lamentillo, the DICT spokesperson, said the public should take the deadline seriously.
“As the deadline for SIM registration draws near, it is imperative that all unregistered citizens take this matter seriously and register their SIMs without delay,” Lamentillo said.
“Take the necessary steps to register your SIMs today and avoid the inconvenience and deactivation that comes with non-compliance.”
As of March 30, the DICT said 54,700,899 or 32.37 percent of the 168,977,773 subscribers have their SIM cards registered.
Of the said registered subscribers, DICT said 4,170,923 are from Dito, 22,683,410 from Globe, and 27,846,566 from Smart.
To register, all existing SIM subscribers must submit an accomplished form through a database platform or website provided by their telecommunications company.
As the first law signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in October, the SIM Registration Act (Republic Act No. 11934) aims to regulate the registration and use of SIMs by mandating all end-users to register their SIMs with their telecommunications networks before their activation.
