MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) on Tuesday said it collected a total of P80.133 billion in March, breaching its P72.282 billion target by 10.86 percent.

In a statement, the BOC said its surplus for the month was equivalent to P7.851 billion.

This brings the total collection of BOC from January to March, or the first quarter of 2023, to P213.619 billion, exceeding its revenue target of P197.020 billion by P16.6 billion or 8.43 percent.

BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio said the collection performance can be attributed to efforts to digitalize its processes, simplify its procedures, crack down on smuggling and promote employee welfare and growth.

“We will continue to implement our priority programs and introduce new initiatives to sustain this positive momentum,” Rubio said. — Aliah Gumasing, INQUIRER.net trainee
