MANILA, Philippines — The Movie Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) advised bus operators on Tuesday that only shows and films with “General Patronage (G)” and “Parental Guidance (PG)” ratings can be aired in public utility vehicles throughout Holy Week and summer break (PUVs).
MTRCB cited Sections 1-3 of its Memorandum Circular No. 09-2011, stating, “All common carriers and other public places that openly and publicly exhibit motion pictures shall be treated as movie theaters for purposes of regulation by the Board.”
“Owing to their public service character and accessibility to the public regardless of age, common carriers and other public places can only publicly exhibit motion pictures classified by the Board as for G or PG,” MTRCB said in a statement.
The agency warned that materials with contents beyond the “PG” rating or programs and movies containing vulgar and sensual words, swearing, nudity, implied or graphic depiction of sexual activity, glamorized violence and criminals, sexual violence, blood and injuries, and drugs or substance use, among many others, are prohibited.
In 2011, the MTRCB, the Land Transport Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB), and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) inked an agreement to protect the general public from television programs and movies with offensive content.
In line with this, the MTRCB urged the public to report violators to the agency’s official social media pages or hotline at 02-8-276-7380.
