MANILA, Philippines — Ten detainees escaped from the Malibay Detention Facility in Pasay City on Monday after breaking metal grills and mauling a jail guard, the Southern Police District (SPD) said.
The SPD said that at around 4:30 a.m., the detainees bolted the facility in Barangay 152.
“Initial investigation disclosed that three of the prisoners managed to break the iron bar of the main facility then held and mauled the duty jailer and took his service firearm, cash and assorted keys of the jail,” the SPD said in its report.
The Pasay City police have since launched a manhunt.
Eight detainees were held for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, while the other two were locked up for car theft and robbery.
The escapees were identified as:
- Richard Dela Cruz (Violation of RA 9165)
- Carlo Magno Benavidez y Legaspi (Violation of RA 9165)
- Christian Salvatierra y Samson (Violation of RA 9165)
- Norman Deyta y Punzalan (Violation of RA 9165)
- Joey Hernandez y Gabriel (Violation of RA 9165)
- Eden Garcia y Rodriguez (Violation of RA 9165)
- Tirzo Galit y Navarro (Robbery)
- Joseph Osorio y Canama (Violation of RA 9165)
- John Michael Cabe y Medellin (Carnapping)
- Joshua Panganiban (Robbery)
The SPD said information on the whereabouts of the ten men may be relayed through 0956-8005277 (Globe), 0998-5987922 (Smart) or other police units.
