MANILA, Philippines–In a bid to protect the public from sexual abuse, violence, and exploitation, Caloocan City has launched its Anti-Sexual Harassment (ASH) desk and hotline.
The initiative was set in motion to coincide with the end of Women’s Month and the beginning of the Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April.
Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan said that any form of sexual harassment or abuse is punishable by law, and the opening of the ASH desk and hotline is a significant step towards protecting the public.
Malapitan emphasized that the ASH desk and hotline will provide a secure channel for victims or witnesses of sexual harassment or abuse to report such incidents.
The hotline is available at 0956-88-43210, and reports can be sent via email to ASHdesk@caloocan.gov.ph. Assistance can also be sought by visiting the Gender and Development Resource and Coordinating Office (GADRCO) on the 8th floor of Caloocan City Hall – South.
“The launch of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Hotline and Desk is our way of showing that there is no place for abuse and harassment in Caloocan,” Malapitan said.
GADRCO Officer-in-Charge Jan Christine Bagtas encouraged the public to seek assistance whenever necessary.
“Our fellow citizens, you have an ally in the Caloocan City Government. Do not be afraid to report or hesitate to ask for help. Our office is open to guide you towards the appropriate actions,” she said.
The ASH desk and hotline aim to provide a safe and confidential space for the public to report incidents of sexual harassment or abuse, she said.
The City Government of Caloocan hopes that the initiative will contribute to reducing the incidence of sexual harassment and abuse in the city.
