Over 1,000 cops to be deployed for Holy Week, summer vacation in Central Luzon
MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga — The Police Regional Office 3 (PRO3) will deploy more than 1,000 policemen on national highways and major roads in Central Luzon during Holy Week and the rest of summer as part of its annual Oplan Summer Vacation (Sumvac).
“I gave directives to all provincial and city (police) directors in the region to ensure the safe and secure travel of motorists and commuters this coming Lenten Season and summer vacation. As a matter of fact, we will be deploying more than 1,000 personnel region-wide starting April 1,” Police Brigadier General Jose Hidalgo Jr., PRO3 chief, said in a statement on Friday, March 31.
Hidalgo said police presence would be intensified through increased foot and mobile patrols and establishing help desks or centers in strategic areas.
He said road safety marshals would be deployed in convergence points, particularly in bus terminals, airports, seaports, and recreational areas.
Policemen would also be posted along highways, main thoroughfares, and crime-prone areas, he said.
Hidalgo instructed all police directors and chiefs to coordinate with local governments and tap the help of non-government organizations and civic groups in establishing and manning police help desks and centers.
He said PRO3 seeks to counter the criminal activities of unscrupulous individuals in convergence areas, tourist destinations, and similar places.
“I am calling for the cooperation of the public to prevent any crime in the community by providing authorities relevant and timely information through PRO3 hotline 0998-5985330/ 0917- 5562597 and social media (Facebook page Police Regional Office 3),” he said, adding that Sumvac would be effective from April 1 to May 31.
