Couple, in their 60s, found dead in Davao del Sur town

DIGOS CITY, Davao del Sur – A couple in their senior years were found dead on Thursday inside their house amid a rubber tree farm in Bansalan town, Davao del Sur.

Captain Orlando Udalve, acting Bansalan police chief, said they were informed about the incident by village officials of Barangay Kinuskusan, prompting him to request the deployment of crime scene investigators from the Provincial Forensics Unit of the Davao del Sur police.

Udalve identified the victims as Evelinda Galigao Gumapac, 60; and Modesto Balili Gumapac, 66.

Police investigation showed that a certain Blas from the neighborhood went to the couple’s house at around 4:00 p.m. on Thursday to buy instant noodles. But his attention was drawn to Modesto lying unconscious on his bed with blood all over his face.

Blas immediately called on the couple’s nephew. As they returned, they found Evelinda lying face down on the ground outside the house, blood oozing from her forehead and neck. The police report also indicated that Evelinda’s underwear was missing.

Inside the house, the couple’s belongings were in disarray.

Police probers found that both victims bore hack wounds; Evelinda in the nape and Modesto in the neck.

The couple’s house is some 200 meters from the nearest neighbor in Purok Durian of Bansalan town’s Barangay Kinuskusan.

Their neighbors told police they noticed the couple’s dog barking profusely at about 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
