Alleged ranking NPA leader killed in Agusan del Sur clash

In a town in Agusan del Sur, two suspected NPA members were killed in an encounter with government troops.

MANILA, Philippines — A leader of the communist New People’s Army was killed in another encounter with soldiers in Agusan del Sur, the Philippine Army said on Friday.

Troops of the 4th Infantry Division and some 20 NPA members figured in a 25-minute firefight in  Sitio Hugmakan, Barangay San Juan, Bayugan City, on Thursday.

This resulted in the death of Emmanuel Balano “Salem” Anub Sr, which the military said was the Secretary of Sub-Regional Committee Westland and also the Secretary of Guerilla Front 21, both under the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee.

Soldiers also seized an AK47 Rifle and several magazines at the encounter site.

On Monday, two suspected NPA leaders were also killed in Sitio Vertudazo, also in Barangay San Juan in Bayugan City.—MJ Soriano, trainee
