COTABATO CITY — An 8-month-old girl was killed while four other family members were injured in an ambush Monday night by still-unidentified armed men.

Captain Ramillo Serame, municipal police chief of Datu Hofer, Maguindanao del Sur, said the five victims were on board a tricycle, locally known as “payong-payong,” driven by Sadam Mamadra Mamasainged, the girl’s father. They were heading home from a nearby mosque.

As they reached Sitio Bagurot of Barangay Tuayan Mother at about 7 p.m., unidentified men on board a motorbike sprayed them with bullets.

Apart from Sadam, also injured were his wife, Faira, and two other children.

Responding police personnel rushed the survivors to the Maguindanao provincial hospital.

Serame said a hunt had been launched for the suspects.

Police investigators said the attack could have been precipitated by a “rido” or family feud.
