MANILA, Philippines — San Miguel, Bulacan police chief Lt. Col. Marlon Serna was shot dead on Saturday night, the Philippine National Police (PNP) reported on Sunday.
A P1 million reward was also raised for information that will lead to the arrest of the suspects.
According to Central Luzon police director Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr., P500,000 of the reward money will come from the Department of the Interior and Local Government, P300,000 from Police Regional Office 3, and P200,000 from the PNP.
Deadly chase
According to the PNP, Serna was responding to an alleged robbery case in Barangay San Juan, San Miguel, Bulacan at around 9:30 p.m.
Serna led a followup operation but was shot by two motorcycle-riding gunmen during a pursuit operation in Barangay Bohol na Mangga, San Ildefonso, Bulacan.
Serna was brought to Emanuel Hospital where he later expired.
Thorough investigation; no letup vs crime
Hidalgo ordered the Bulacan provincial police to conduct an in-depth and thorough investigation.
“This is unfortunate news for us as one of our members was killed in line with our diligent efforts to arrest lawless elements and while nothing can make up for his loss, along with our deepest condolences, we assure his bereaved family that they will get the necessary benefits that are due for them,” said Hidalgo.
“Still, we are committed in our fight against all forms of criminality and we will continue to be relentless in our campaign at all costs,” he added.
