Public hearing on fare rate hike

A public hearing is set this afternoon for the proposed P1.50 fare increase petition for passenger jeepneys.

The 2 p.m. forum is set  at the Cebu Normal University (CNU) Auditorium.

The Cebu Integrated Transport Services Cooperative will file the petition for the P1.50 increase.

The petition would raise minimum PUJ fare from the current P7.50 to P9.00.  The LTFRB Manila office last month approved a proivisional P.50 fare rate increase.

A bigger crowd is expected today.

An LTFRB public hearing on the P7.50 fare last December 2010 attracted only 10 people, said LTFRB Regional Director Ahmed Cuizon.

The result of today’s public hearing will be sent to the LTFRB board in Manila for deliberation. Correspondent Jhunnex Napallacan

Market revenue  increase

ONLY a month after it started accepting stall rentals, the Mandaue City market earned nearly P3 million.

A  two-month moratorium for all  renters expired last April 8. They started paying their daily rentals of P40 to P70 a day on a monthly basis, said Mandaue City market administrator, Mosuline Suliva.

The revenue will be used for  maintenance, salaries of market staffers and other programs for the city market. Correspondent Fe Marie Dumaboc
