2 motorcyclists dead, 1 injured in Batangas mishaps

LUCENA CITY – Two motorcycle riders died and another one was injured in separate road accidents in Batangas on Saturday.

The Batangas police, in a report Sunday, said motorcyclist July Olmido, 34, lost control of his vehicle at around 11:35 p.m. which swerved toward a concrete gutter..

Olmido sustained serious head injuries and died on the spot.

In Malvar town, a sport  utility vehicle driven by  Ryan Vecina hit the motorcycle driven by Joel Timanel, 51, along J.P. Laurel Highway in Barangay Pioquinto at around 11:30 p.m.

As a result of the impact, Timanel’s motorcycle crashed into the motorcycle of Rey Carlo Maranan, 37.

The two riders were rushed to hospital where Timanel was declared dead on arrival.

The police said the concerned parties were open to an amicable settlement.

The report did not state whether or not the three motorcycle riders in the two incidents were wearing crash helmets, which is required by the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
