Weak but shallow quake hits Masbate

MANILA, Philippines–A minor earthquake with a magnitude of 2.5 hit the northern part of Masbate province on Saturday, March 25, 2023, at 7:14 p.m.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the quake’s epicenter was located at 10 kilometers northeast Masbate City,  with a depth of focus of only 8 kilometers.

The quake’s origin was classified as tectonic.

Despite its minor magnitude, the tremor was reportedly felt in the city of Masbate, Masbate, at Instrumental Intensity II, which is described as a weak vibration felt only by some people in buildings.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries caused by the earthquake.

The Philippines is located in the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region that is highly prone to seismic activity.
