TAGUM CITY — A massive fire on Wednesday gutted a portion of an elementary school in Kapalong town, Davao del Norte, fire authorities said on Thursday.
About P500,000 worth of property and equipment were lost as the blaze swept through Maniki Central Elementary School in Barangay Maniki around 6:30 p.m., according to Fire Officer 2 Carl Jay Gallo, Kapalong fire station spokesperson.
Gallo said the fire, which likely started from the MAPEH classroom, spread to two buildings and razed five “academic and one non-academic classrooms.”
“A loose electrical connection (possibly) ignited the blaze. Those classrooms were of light materials,” he said.
Responding firefighters from Kapalong fire station were joined by those from the nearby towns of Asuncion and Talaingod, and disaster response units from these towns in putting out the fire.
The fire was put out at 9:05 p.m. No one was hurt in the incident.
