MANILA, Philippines — In celebration of World Water Day, Manila Water opened its one-day exhibit titled “The Future Deserves to be Real” highlighting clean water as a precious but very finite resource at the UP Town Center in Quezon City.

During its ribbon-cutting ceremony, Manila Water’s Corporate Communications Director Jeric Sevilla addressed the student-leaders of Balara Elementary School, emphasizing their crucial role in protecting the sustainability of the water supply.

“Ang tubig, hindi siya unli. Kinakailangan matutuhan nating gamitin ito nang wasto at responsable. [Water is not unlimited. That is why we need to learn how to use it correctly and responsibly.],” Sevilla told the students.

Sevilla was joined by UP Town Center Senior Marketing Associate Carla Garcia and Manila Water’s Water Advocacy and Research Department Head Jennifer delos Santos.

After the ceremony, the Manila Water Foundation and UP Town Center donated three WASHup Handwashing Stations to Balara Elementary school. The school also received copies of Manila Water Foundation’s WASH Storybook entitled, “May Tubig na si Tinay.”

The handwashing stations are part of Manila Water’s WASHup! WASHup! Campaign promoting this simple but effective personal hygiene practice.

The student-leaders also attended a mini LAKBAYAN session where they learned about Manila Water’s water trail. LAKBAYAN is the company’s educational workshop, which aims to promote appreciation among students of the water trail—from water to wastewater treatment and its role in protecting the environment.

With the theme “The Future Deserves to be Real,” the exhibit features the water company’s commitment to ensure that future generations enjoy the beauty of nature. It also highlighted the company’s new water trail educational workshop program for teachers—SALiN-LAKBAYAN. In partnership with the Department of Education – National Capital Region, SALiN-LAKBAYAN program is designed for public school teachers in the East Zone of Metro Manila to appreciate the water trail fully.

The company is also participating in the Department of Environment and Natural Resources exhibition for World Water Day at the Ninoy Aquino Park and Wildlife Center in Quezon City, which runs from March 17 to 24.

With the theme “Accelerating Change through Partnerships and Cooperation,” the exhibit features the efforts of DENR and its partners in the public and private sectors to achieve water security and sustainable development for Filipinos.
