MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has moved the filing of certificates of candidacy (COCs) for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections from July to August this year.
Comelec chairman George Garcia on Wednesday said the COC filing will now run from August 28 to September 2 instead of its initial July schedule.
“We reset the filing of COCs for Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections from July 3 to 7 to August 28 to September 2,” he told reporters in a text message.
This development came after Senator Francis Tolentino called on the poll body to defer the COC filing, arguing that it would be premature to push through with it in July.

Tolentino said moving the COC filing to a later date would prevent election-related violence, help local governments perform well, and avert “early politicking.”
According to Garcia, the Comelec would later make public a more detailed notice regarding the reset COC filing for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
