SORSOGON CITY — Soldiers found a rifle and some bullets at the site where the Army’s 22nd Infantry Battalion troops clashed Tuesday with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Barcelona town in Sorsogon province.
A belated report by the 9th Infantry Division on Wednesday, March 22, said the troops conducted an operation in the area after receiving information from concerned residents about the presence of rebels in the barangays of Fabrica, Olandia, and Putiao Barcelona.
The government troops encountered five rebels, which led to a five-minute gunfire exchange. No one was killed or injured among the soldiers.
Recovered at the clash site were an M16 rifle, ammunition, and two magazines. The clearing operation is ongoing.
