Marikina police said it had solved at least five murder cases with the arrest of the city’s most wanted man believed to be involved in a series of shooting incidents in the area.
Alex Sultan, of Barangay Tumana, Marikina City, was arrested Tuesday on the strength of a warrant issued by Judge Felix Reyes of Marikina Regional Trial Court Branch 272.
Supt. Emmanuel Tabuena, deputy head of the Marikina police, said Sultan had been linked to a string of robbery and murder cases and had been the subject of a manhunt since 2004.
“His recent victims include SPO Rocco Matic, who was shot dead in front of his children on Sunday and Jaime Naval, a retired Navy officer who was killed inside his home the same day,” Tabuena said.
The other alleged victims were Sheryl Tan, a former bail bondsman or “piyansadora;” Mark Anthony Flores, a security guard of the Land Transportation Office; and a man identified as Joseph Castillo.
Witnesses in the four cases and a video on a closed-circuit television camera in front of the LTO office had pointed to Sultan as the gunman, Tabuena said.
