DPWH completes P24-million school building project in Oriental Mindoro
MANILA, Philippines — A P24-million two-story building has risen in the Gatol High School at the town of Bulalacao in Oriental Mindoro, said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
In a statement on Monday, DPWH announced the completion of an eight-classroom school building project in the school, which is seen to cater to at least 161 high school students from Barangays San Roque, Benli and Nasucob.
DPWH – Mimaropa (Marinduque, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Palawan, Romblon) Director Gerald Pacanan said that the construction of school buildings in remote areas is “deemed necessary to increase educational interest of children, promote social activities, bridge gaps, and eventually decrease poverty in the long run.”
Education Undersecretary Epimaco Densing III said last Thursday that they were looking for funding outside the national budget to address the more than 165,000-classroom backlog affecting millions of public students in the country.
