Manila Water strengthens support to Million Trees Foundation

Manila Water and Manila Water Foundation renew their commitment to the environment and sustainability through donation of P1-M to Million Trees Foundation, Inc., in support to environmental efforts to mitigate the ill effects of climate change such as carbon credit recovery by planting a million trees and by rehabilitating critical watersheds. The donation hand-over ceremony was attended by: (from L-R) MTFI President and Executive Director Melandrew Velasco, MWSS Administrator Leonor Cleofas, Chairperson MWSS Board of Trustee Atty. Elpidio Vega, MTFI Chairman Emeritus Gen. Reynaldo Velasco, MWF President and MWC President and CEO Jocot de Dios, MWC Enterprise Regulatory and Stakeholder Engagement Group Head Atty. Kaye Celera, MWF Executive Director Reginald Andal, and MWC Business Operation and Customer Service Regulation Department Head Don Marcelino.

Kaye Celera, MWF Executive Director Reginald Andal, and MWC Business Operation and Customer Service Regulation Department Head Don Marcelino.

Manila Water Company (MWC) and Manila Water Foundation (MWF) renew their commitment to the environment and sustainability through a donation of one million pesos to Million Trees Foundation, Inc. (MTFI) during their second anniversary celebration as an organization.

The P1 million donation was for MTFI to develop its onsite office and establish the nursery at the 5-hectare property at the La Mesa Watershed.

At the anniversary event, the donation handover ceremony was held after the Partnership Message of MWF President and MWC President and CEO Jocot de Dios. He was joined by MWF Executive Director Reginald Andal, MWC Enterprise Regulatory and Stakeholder Engagement Group Head Atty. Kaye Revil, MTFI Chairman Emeritus Gen. Reynaldo Velasco (Ret), and MTFI President and Executive Director Melandrew Velasco.

MTFI recognized the invaluable contribution of MWC and MWF as stakeholder partners in protecting the environment through its water access, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) and environmental programs that are social investments to communities and future generations.

MWF is one with MTFI in projects that sustain environmental efforts to mitigate the ill effects of climate change such as carbon credit recovery by planting a million trees and rehabilitating critical watersheds namely Ipo, La Mesa, Angat, Umiray, Laguna Lake, and Manila Bay.

“It’s an honor to collaborate with MTFI in creating holistic efforts to save and preserve our environment from deterioration. We’re proud that we are part of their action, as we also have the same goal through our LIKAS program house as part of our environmental initiatives in MWF,” Andal shared.

Manila Water Foundation’s LIKAS is an environmental sustainability program on watershed protection, rural livelihood, and urban agriculture.

Currently, the program has Project Katig which aims to support fisherfolk. LIKAS will also have its project for forest rangers in Ipo Watershed in Norzagaray, Bulacan and Nabaoy Watershed in Malay, Aklan.

Manila Water Company envisions its talents across the enterprise to champion sustainability and environmental stewardship.
