MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said Friday that it is ready to deploy 4,690 officers to ensure public safety during Holy Week and summer holidays.
According to the NCRPO, the 4,690 police officers will be sent to the streets and other key areas in Metro Manila as it expects an influx of vacationers amid the Lenten season and upcoming summer break.
Also, the NCRPO said in a statement that 7,738 personnel from the Metro Manila Development Authority, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, Special Action Force, Regional Highway Patrol Unit, Regional Maritime Unit, and Aviation Security Group are on standby to augment peace and order enforcers.
NCRPO chief Police Maj. Gen. Edgar Alan Okubo explained that police officers will conduct “anti-criminality operations; target hardening measures; traffic management or direction and other related police public safety services” in areas such as transportation terminals, places of worship, malls, markets, commercial areas, and parks.
In a separate statement, Okubo said police officers from his office would undergo training and immersion programs to increase police visibility and assist barangays in ensuring the safety and security of the metropolis.
He said the training will “equip the 240 participants from the five police districts and Regional Mobile Force Battalion of the NCRPO with the knowledge, skills, and values required of a Revitalized-Pulis sa Barangay operative” to help local government units minimize service delivery gaps.
Okubo also sought the public’s cooperation, advising them to immediately report information about security concerns to the nearest police station.
