MANILA, Philippines — Thousands of women in Caloocan City got screened for cervical cancer as part of the celebration of National Women’s Month.

Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan on Friday said a total of 1,102 patients underwent cervical cancer screening with breast examination and risk assessment conducted by the 44 health centers in the city.

“This program intends to ensure women’s health and shield them against illnesses and complications such as cervical and breast cancer which is very common among women,” Malapitan said in a statement.

Malapitan said the free cervical cancer tests will continue in the coming days.

The local chief executive also reminded his constituents that the Caloocan City North Medical Center offers free mammograms every Friday, while Caloocan City Medical Center offers free breast ultrasounds every Monday, and free pelvic ultrasounds and pap smears every Tuesday.
