Menopause clinic inaugurated in Legazpi City

LEGAZPI CITY, Albay — The management and medical staff of Bicol Regional Hospital and Medical Center (BRHMC), formerly known as Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital, held its inauguration of its Menopause Clinic on Thursday, March 16.

In line with the celebrations of National Women’s Month, the BRHMC held the opening of the Menopause Clinic which will cater to the problems encountered by women in their pre, during and after menopause stages.

Dr. Vaneza VL. Penolio, Medical Specialist III /Reproductive,Endocrinology and Infertility Specialist, told the media in a press conference during the inauguration said that menopause is not an illness.

“It is actually a journey of every woman. A phenomenon in which every woman experiences throughout 1/3 of their lives,” Penolio said.

Dr. Alma Bella Rivera, Chief of Medical Professional Staff II, also at the press conference, emphasized the importance of knowing the symptoms of menopause and how to address it.

Rivera also said that their purpose for forming the clinic is to advocate proper awareness about menopause to both women and men.

She encouraged every woman who are experiencing symptoms of menopause to consult with them at the menopause clinic.

Walk-in patients are advised to get referral first from their local health units. They can also message the official Facebook page ‘BRHMC Menopause Clinic’ and call the hospital telehealth services under menopause clinic project.

The clinic is open Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. No requirements needed and consultations are free. Nikka Napod, contributor
