MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Thursday said he is “happy” to have visited Camarines Sur province, the hometown of his closest rival in the 2022 elections, former Vice President Leni Robredo.
Marcos visited the province to lead four events: the launching of the “Kadiwa ng Pangulo” outlet in Pili town, the groundbreaking of two housing projects of the government in Naga City, and the distribution of various government assistance to farmers and flood victims.
“Of course while I am here I am happy to be here, to be able to see na marami na yung ginagawa. It’s good to be able to come out and actually see for yourself,” he told reporters in an interview.
(I am happy to be here and to see that many of our projects are being done.)
Marcos said he was also able to speak with the residents themselves, particularly the farmers, to know what they need.
“I hope that they can see na kung anuman ang pinangako namin noong kampanya ay sinusubukan naming itupad lahat ng aming sinasabi, pinagusapan,” he added.
(I hope they can see that we are trying our best to accomplish what we promised during the 2022 campaign.)
“We talked about housing, I talked about MSMEs, I talked about the internet, I talked about power, lahat yan ay tinatrabaho namin nang husto. At nakikita naman ng tao kahit na hindi pa tapos ay talagang mayroon na tayong sinimulan,” the President added.
(We are working on all of that. And the people can see that even though we have not finished yet, at least we have started something.)
Marcos said the government continues to work on his promise to bring down the price of rice to P20 per kilo.
He cited factors including the weather that affect the price of the commodity.
“Minamalas din tayo sa weather kaya hindi mo matiyak kung ano ‘yung magiging production, ano ‘yung magiging supply. So tingnan natin. Pababa nang pababa [ang presyo], we’ll keep working on it,” Marcos said when asked if there is a timetable to his promise of P20 per kilo rice.
(We sometimes get unfortunate with the weather so we can’t fully predict the production and supply. So we’ll see. The price is going down. We’ll keep working on it.)
