Magnitude 5.3 earthquake rocks Davao Occidental town
MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck Sarangani, Davao Occidental on Thursday morning, state seismologists said.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the earthquake of tectonic origin was recorded at 5:25 a.m..
Its epicenter was traced 181 kilometers southeast of Sarangani and had a shallow depth of six kilometers.
The tremor is unlikely to cause damage but aftershocks are expected, Phivolcs added.
Instrumental intensity I was reported in Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental and Malungon, Sarangani.
No felt intensities were reported, Phivolcs said.
Felt intensity is the ground shaking actually felt and reported by the people through the Phivolcs Earthquake Intensity Scale, while instrumental intensity is the ground shaking intensity measured by the intensity meters in and around the epicentral area.
