MANILA, Philippines — In time for International Women’s Month, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) recognized on Wednesday its all-female class of 377 trainees in La Union.

In a statement, PCG said it hailed the female trainees from the Coast Guard Non-Officers’ Course Class 97-2022 “Alab Hiraya” at Poro Point in San Fernando City on Tuesday.

Commodore Roben de Guzman, PCG Education, Training and Doctrine Command deputy commander, led the recognition rites. He praised the trainees for marking “the end of numerous restrictions and difficulties.”

He also called on drill instructors and training personnel to always “be responsible and accountable for their action.”

In March, the PCG recorded 22,000 more women joining the Coast Guard. As of 2022, the agency has 878 women officers and 2,831 officers.
