MANILA, Philippines — Former Maguindanao Gov. Datu Sajid Islam Ampatuan has been convicted anew by the Sandiganbayan for graft and malversation through falsification of public documents involving the irregular purchase of P147 million worth of farm inputs in 2009.
In a 56-page decision on March 10, the antigraft court also sentenced Ampatuan to 40 years in prison for malversation and eight to 12 years for graft.
Also convicted for malversation was former Maguindanao agriculturist Mosibicak Guiabel.
On the graft charge, Ampatuan and Guiabel were also convicted along with former provincial budget officer Datu Ali Abpi Al Haj.
