Body of man reported missing on Easter recovered off Cebu resort

CEBU CITY, Philippines—The body of a 20-year-old man, who went missing on Easter Sunday, was fished out Monday morning in Silot Bay off Liloan town, Cebu.

SP03 Ernesto Pepito Jr., investigator of the Liloan Police Station, identified the victim as Jovani Ho, a resident of Sikatuna Street, Cebu City.

Pepito said Ho, together with his mother Vicky Bacalla Ho and some friends, went on excursion at Pilapil’s Park Resort in Barangay Poblacion, Liloan on Easter Sunday.

The police officer said they received a report that Ho went missing while he was swimming at sea at 3:40 p.m. Sunday.

Pepito said the victim might have been carried away by a strong current, which usually occurs in the area during high tide.

He said they conducted a search and rescue operation until the evening of Sunday with the help of the Cebu Coast Guard and some fishermen in the area, but they failed to locate the 20-year-old.

But on Monday at around 6:25 a.m., fisherman Romeo Dimpas found Ho’s body floating in the bay, less than a kilometer from the resort.
