Pagasa: ‘Amihan’ surge to bring cooler weather until next week

MANILA, Philippines — The northeast monsoon or “amihan” is expected to bring cooler weather conditions to most parts of Luzon until next week, the state weather bureau said on Friday.

“Sa mga nagtatanong kung magsisimula  na ba ang tag init, kung magtatapos na ba ang amihan, hindi po,” Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) weather specialist Benison Estareja said.

(The amihan season is not about to end and the dry season is not starting yet.)

“Aasahan pa din po natin ang surge ng northeast monsoon hanggang sa susunod na linggo,” he added.

(We expect the surge of northeast monsoon until next week.)

Cool

Metro Manila and most parts of Luzon on Friday will experience cooler temperatures due to the cold winds blowing from Siberia.

Metro Manila is projected to have temperatures ranging from 21 to 30 degrees Celsius; Tagaytay City at 20 to 30 degrees Celcius; Baguio City at 13 to 21 degrees Celsius; Laoag City at 21 to 30 degrees Celcius; Legazpi City at 23 to 31 degrees Celsius; Tugegarao City at 21 to 30 degrees Celsius; and Puerto Princesa City, with 24 to 32 degrees Celsius.

In the Visayas, Cebu is forecast to have a temperature range of from 24 to 30 degrees Celsius, Tacloban, 23 to 32 degrees Celsius, and Iloilo with 26 to 30 degrees Celsius; while in Mindanao, Zamboanga City is expected to have a temperature range of from 24 to 34 degrees Celsius, Cagayan de Oro at 23 to 29 degrees Celsius, and 25 to 35 degrees Celsius in Davao City.

Fair weather

Meanwhile, fair Friday weather is expected nationwide, with partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains and isolated rain showers and thunderstorms.

Pagasa did not raise gale warnings over any of the country’s seaboards.
